HELENE SOLOMON WEIGHS IN ON KOBE BRYANT

August, 2003

Everyone had Kobe on the brain. His career. His marriage. His endorsements. His image. And, most prominently the big question: Would any of these survive the scandal? Accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman on June 30, 2003, Los Angeles Lakers fan favorite Kobe Bryant stood as an example of a fallen hero. For weeks following the filing of charges, journalists, marketing specialists, sportscasters and junkies, and just about everyone else had something to say about Kobe.

But, when CBS Radio in New York looked for a public relations opinion, it sought Helene Solomon. On the eve of Kobe Bryantís first court appearance on August 6, the station called Helene and asked for her impromptu perspective. Helene provided insight into Kobeís public image and what his demeanor should and should not be. She answered questions such as, "Should Kobeís wife be by his side?" and "What should he wear?" The interview also included commentary on how facially expressive Kobe should be and what statements he should or should not make public.
