SM& PRESIDENT & CEO HELENE SOLOMON SPEAKS ON MARKETING BEST PRACTICES FOR NONPROFITS AT THE 2007 WOMEN'S CONGRESS

March 2007

Dwindling resources and more contenders. Funders who increasingly require measurable outcomes. How can nonprofits meet these challenges and advance their missions effectively by adopting for-profit business practices?

On Friday, March 30, Solomon McCown President and CEO Helene Solomon and other experts addressed this vital question in an important panel at the 2007 Women's Congress in Boston. Called "Doing Good Means Doing Good Business: Marketing, Metrics and Other Best Practices for Nonprofits," this panel focused on the most crucial corporate best practices for nonprofits, including messaging and branding, establishing metrics and measurements, efficient administration and operations, and legal issues such as board development and transparency. With leading experts in these fields, and a CEO whose nonprofit has flourished by using these methods, this panel combined both eye-opening insights and practicable takeaways.

Aileen Gorman, executive director of The Commonwealth Institute, moderated the panel, and in addition to Helene Solomon, the panelists included Shannon O'Brien, CEO of Girl Scouts, Patriots' Trail Council, and Kristin McCormack, faculty director of Boston University School of Management's Public & Nonprofit Management Program.
