Unwavering confidence in the tensest situation, the ability to command authority and impeccable preparation - these are the hallmarks that make Ashley McCown such a widely respected crisis communicator. Her past year of success caught the eye of PR News' PR People Awards, who presented her with honorable mention for Crisis Communicator of the Year at the annual awards luncheon at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
PR News' Top Crisis Communicators must be exemplary in public relations achievements over the past year. The award considers specific campaign efforts and outcomes, as well as leadership qualities, innovative thinking, sound judgment, flexibility, creativity, financial management, volunteer efforts and the ability to apply key PR tenets. Ashley has continued to advance crisis communications as a discipline - and the PR profession as a whole - through client-focused efforts, such as tabletop exercises to test crisis plans and through her participation on multiple panels on topical crisis communications issues like the role of the corporate apology and planning for a potential flu pandemic. She has also spoken before the gatherings of the Massachusetts Hospital Association and the New England Society for Healthcare Communications on planning for corporate campaigns.
