SM& EVP ASHLEY MCCOWN SPEAKS AT NATIONAL BOMA CONFERENCE

In the wake of 9/11 and natural disasters like Katrina, with incidents of workplace violence on the rise and the threat of pandemic flu looming, commercial building owners and property management companies have never been more aware of their tremendous responsibility to ensure the safety of their properties, employees, tenants and guests.
In the event of a serious incident, tested emergency response procedures, clear chain of command, accurate flow of information, and managing media and tenant communications will be the difference between disaster and disaster recovery. An emergency response and crisis communications plan is the single best tool to mitigate liability and lower the corresponding cost of risk and media fallout.
On July 23, SM& EVP Ashley McCown participated in a panel, “Preparing for the Worst: Risk Management Through Crisis Communications Planning,” at the national BOMA Conference at The Javits Center in New York.
James M. Rosenbluth, managing director of crisis management at Cushman & Wakefield and an international security specialist, was the discussion’s moderator. In addition to Ashley, the other panelists included Brett J. Holmgren, a risk management consultant at Robert M. Currey & Associates, and Bruce Kennedy, a security and anti-terrorism expert with the James Mintz Group.
