LINDSAY HYDE - FOUNDER & PRESIDENT,
STRONG WOMEN, STRONG GIRLS
A
life-long advocate for community service, Lindsay Hyde founded the nonprofit organization Strong Women, Strong Girls (SWSG) as a freshman at Harvard University in 2000 to support the leadership and self-esteem development of women and girls. By building communities of champions committed to supporting positive social change, SWSG works to create cycles of mutual empowerment for women and girls.
Lindsay has been recognized extensively for her efforts as a social entrepreneur. Last June she received the Jefferson Award for changemakers under 35 - a Nobel Prize for community and public service created by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Senator Robert Taft, Jr. and Sam Beard. Past recipients of this national honor include Steve Jobs, Lance Armstrong, and Payton Manning. She also received the Do Something BR!CK Award and the 2005 YWCA of Cambridge Outstanding Women of the Year award. She has been called a hero by Bank of America in 2006 and Women's Business Boston in 2007, and her leadership has been recognized in Seventeen and Glamour Magazine.
In her Mission Recognition interview, Lindsay discusses how SWSG uses history to help foster confidence and leadership in inner-city girls and young college women. Lindsay also speaks about how integrating social media has advanced the impact of her organization, and how building communities of champions is essential for all social entrepreneurs She is a certified public accountant with 20 years of private sector experience.
